Leicester U-21s coach Steve Beaglehole has expressed his satisfaction with the contribution of Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho and other senior players in their 2-1 away win against League One side Scunthorpe in the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday.
Leicester paraded senior players like Iheanacho, Yohan Benalouane, Daniel Amartey and Aleksandre Dragovic in the clash against Scunthorpe.
George Thomas and Sam Hughes were the scorers for Leicester, while Kevin Van Veen got Scunthorpe’s goal.
“All the senior players showed a great attitude despite being a little rusty. Ben made two really top-class saves to keep us in it too,” Beaglehole told Leicester City TV.
“We showed composure at the end to get over the line and it’s a tremendous result for us. It keeps our run going and it’s a great achievement by the team.”
And in his assessment of the game, Beaglehole said: “We said it was important to start right. It’s obvious when you look at the reaction of their manager how important it was for them to win.
“Scoring twice in the first 15 minutes gave us a foothold in the game and settled the tempo. We did that brilliantly, it was a great start and good goals from George and Sam.
“We went 2-0 up and we were comfortable. We should have gone more than two ahead as we were on top but goals change games and we saw that.
“We gave a free-kick away and then switched off. We went in with just a one-goal lead despite dominating the game. Their manager got them going in the second half.”
