Governors under the aegis of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold an ‘emergency meeting’ on Thursday to discuss the crises in the national assembly.
Following controversies revolving the election of Bukola Saraki as senate president and Yakubu Dogara as speaker in contradiction to the wishes of the APC hierarchy.
A notice issued late Tuesday night by governor of Imo state and chairman of the progressive governors, Rochas Okorocha, invited his colleagues to the Thursday meeting at the Imo lodge, Asokoro, Abuja. The meeting is scheduled to start at 8pm and the governors are expected to take a position ahead of the APC national executive committee (NEC) which will hold on Friday at 10am.
President Buhari is expected to attend the NEC. Saraki and Dogara are also members of the party’s NEC and are expected to be at the party . This would make it a first time the trio would be meeting . The governors are hopeful that the crises would be resolved by this weekend after previous meetings by the various interest in the party failed to calm matters.
Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila were the party’s preferred candidates for the respective positions, but both men lost after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed their opponents.
