Ahead of the December 2017 elective convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, the North Central Zonal chapter of the party has reinforced its initial zoning arrangement as a means towards ensuring equitable distribution of offices while ensuring fairness and transparency.
North Central Zonal Chairman, Theophilus Dakas Shan, who addressed newsmen on Thusday at the National Headquarters of the Party said that “the elders and leaders of the party in the 7 states of the North Central Zone including the FCT have committed enormous resources towards putting our house in order and we expect nothing short of total compliance for party members including aspirants and delegates.”
The Zonal Chairman, accompanied by Zonal Publicity Secretary, Architect Mohammed Suleiman, reiterated that “for the avoidance of doubt, the post of the National Publicity Secretary is exclusive to Kogi State. The National Financial Secretary has been allotted to Niger State while Benue State will produce the Deputy National Secretary of our party. Nasarawa State will produce the Deputy National Organizing Secretary while all ex-officio slots will remain in the respective states to where they were initially zoned. Anything short of these is unacceptable and aspirants are strongly advised to comply.”
In another development, PDP elders and leaders from the North Central Zone rose from a meeting in Grand Ibro Hotels, Wuse to ratify the zoning arrangements. The session which had in attendance stalwarts like Capt. Idris Wada, Prof. Jerry Gana, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, His Excellency, Sen. Jonah Jang, Sen Atai Ali Aidoko, His Excellency, Gen. Tunde Ogbeha, Gabriel Suswam threw its weight behind the micro-zoning arrangement.
Prof. Jerry Gana who spoke declared that “the North Central Zone has always given the PDP and Nigeria the best of its products. As such, members of the party from the zone in respective convention sub-committees must ensure that they put the collective interest of the zone in view and respect the desire of elders and leaders in the zone in view of the micro zoning arrangement.
On his part, His Excellency, Gabriel Suswam decried the spate of EFCC attacks on sons of daughters of the zone which He likened to political persecution. He also declared that in view of the zoning of the presidency to the North, the North central must exercise “its right to promote a candidate for the presidency.”
