The battle for the governorship of Bayelsa State may have shifted to Southern Ijaw even as the incumbent Gov.Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared to have won in five local governments. There are eight local governments in the state. According to INEC, Dickson is leading the candidate of All Progressive Party (APC) candidate, former governor Timipre Silver 25,415 votes.
However, trouble has been reported at the Southern Ijaw Local Government where entire election materials and INEC staff for Ologbobiri, Basan, Koloama, and Apoi comminuities were allegedly hijacked by some militants said to be led by Ogunbos and Africa. These militants were allegedly aided by military gunboats.
The men and materials were reportedly moved to the residence of Gen. Africa at Ologbobiri where thumb-printing is allegedly been carried out till late night. INEC staff that resisted were allegedly beaten while voting is also reportedly going on in some communities without electricity.
