The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmoud Mohammed will tomorrow join other eminent Nigerians to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Nigerian Weekly Law Reports(NWLR). The anniversary which comes up in Lagos will feature a lecture/ symposium with the topic: “The place of law reporting in the 21st century, legal research and practice”. The symposium will feature Prof Akin Oyebode, and Mr Tayo Oyetibo amongst other eminent Nigerians.
NWLR was established by the late human rights lawyer, and crusader, Chief Gani Oyesola Fawehinmi SAN IN 1985. He faced stiff opposition from the men of establishment who opposed the publishing of indigenous law reports in Nigeria. Fawehinmi was almost derobed and blacklisted from practicing law. Also many believed he was denied the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria for a long time on account of NWLR and his several other fights against state oppression.
Chief Fawehinmi died on September 7, 2009.
