Nigerian forwad Sone Aluko made his first start in the FA Cup competition for Reading who defeated League Two side Stevenage 3-0 with Iceland star Jon Dadi Bodvarsson scoring all the goals at the Madjeski stadium in a third round replay.
The first meeting ended ended O-0 at the Broadhall Way Stadium 10 days ago.
Bodvarsson, whose Iceland will be in Nigeria’s group at the Russia 2018 World Cup, scored a hat trick for Reading to set up a fourth round (round 32) of the FA Cup clash with Sheffield Wednesday who also defeated Carlisle 2-0 in a third round replay on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old scored the opener in the 32nd minute, volleying home from close range into the bottom right corner. The Icelandic international doubled his side’s lead one minute before the break, heading in Chris Gunter’s corner from the centre of the box into the top right corner.
Reading had to change their jerseys in the second half because of a kit clash with the visitors.
In the 64th minute, Bodvarsson scored in two different kots in the same match when put the game beyond the visitors, grabbing his third goal on the night with a fierce shot from close range.
It was Bodvarsson’s first hat-trick in English football, on what is his 68th appearance in all competitions (48 for Wolves, 20 for Reading).
Bodvarsson scored thrice in eight World Cup qualifying games for Iceland who qualified for their first ever senior World Cup. Iceland are drawn in Group D alongside Nigeria, Croatia and Argentina at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Aluko on his part has made 26 Sky Bet Championship appearances this season and has scored one goal, providing four assists.
The fourth-round ties of the FA Cup competition will be played across the weekend of 27 January and 28 January.
