The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja boils on Monday afternoon as clashes occurred  A between security operatives and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiite Muslims over the demand for the release of the detained leader of the group, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. Many are feared dead while several are left wounded.

Gavel International gathered that the mayhem occurred as a result of the members of the Shiite sect disobedience of a ban order issued by FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Sadiq Bello. Bello allegedly issued a ban last weekend on all protests and rallies around Unity Fountain, the place the Shiites held their sitting protests.

Shiites members in defiance to the police ban had proceeded with their rallu on Monday,  insisting the police ban is an infringement on their fundamental Human Rights.

This had led violence between security operatives and members of the sect. The police allegedly used both tear gas, water cannons and live ammunition on the protesters, leading to a heavy casualty.
